Tourist Gothic

We left Monday morning, July 18th, from Knoxville. Our good friend Melissa snapped this shot right before she went to work with more sane folks (she's a therapist in a substance abuse center). Genna is prepared to do some heavy sleeping -- Tempurpedic pillow, 40 gig Ipod, eyeshades.

You can't drive through St. Louis and not take a picture of the arch. Demonstrating true photographic prowess, Genna got both of these late afternoon views out the passenger window of a car moving at 60mph thru rush hour traffic. I love the image on the left with the trees in the foreground because it gives such an other worldly appearance to the arch -- that, and the fact there are no other objects in frame. The image on the right shows the sculptural features better, I think. Click them both for larger images.
We ended up in Columbia, Missouri, bought a wi-fi card, ate at Macoroni Grill and called it a day. A little over 600 miles. The car rides great and the XM radio is a real treat -- Al Franken's show is much better. He's no Limbaugh in terms of raw talent, but obviously the content is better.
A lot more tomorrow.
